The Lawrence County Road Department maintains the County's Road and Bridge network.  The Road Department personnel perform routine maintenance such as blading dirt roads, patching paved roads, cleaning ditches, and maintaining traffic control signs.  The Road Department utilizes revenue generated from the county's allocation of gasoline tax resources to maintain its 650+ miles of paved road, 220+ miles of unpaved roads, and the 141 bridge structures located in the county.

Engineering Personnel are responsible for plan, design, and inspection of all construction activities on all federal, state, and county funded projects.  These include resurfacing and rehabilitation of our paved road network and replacement of county bridges.

The County Road Department is also responsible for regulating the subdivision and land development withing the county's unincorporated areas.  All division of land is subject to the county's subdivision regulations.  These regulations are made available to the public at the Lawrence County Road Department (or by clicking on Sub Regs and Floodzone).  These regulations are designed to provide the citizens/taxpayers with well-built, safe, and sustainable developments.

The County Road Department operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  After hours emergency requests can be made by calling the Lawrence County Sheriffs Dispatch at (256) 974-9291.
